Summer Learning Program
Brickl Memorial Library 2011
One World, Many Stories
“One World, Many Stories” was the theme for the 2011 Summer Learning Program at the Brickl Memorial Library in Dickeyville. Six sessions were held on Thursday mornings beginning June 16th and ending July 28th, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. for children ages toddler-10.
Performers from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Heartland Festival’s production of The Music Man welcomed the children and their family members to the Summer Learning Program. They provided music, storytelling and a craft project for the participants. Throughout the summer guest speakers from Puerto Rico and Colombia shared different aspects of their cultures as well as a Native American presenter who had a large display of original artifacts for the children to experience firsthand. Approximately 85 children participated in the 2011 Summer Learning Program.
Tina Pfohl, Director of the Brickl Memorial Library, would like to extend her sincere appreciation to the following: Gooch’s Green House, Swiss Colony, Sunset Lanes & Hall, Friends of the Library, Dickeyville-Kieler Lions Club, and various local volunteers whose support helped to encourage children to continue their learning throughout the summer and provided them with rewards for their effort.
